Across a career in journalism and senior public affairs roles in the insurance sector, Rod has an outstanding track-record in the identification, preparation for, and management of contentious issues in the public arena. 

His 13 year career in journalism with Fairfax at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age included serving as NSW State Parliamentary Reporter and Chief of Staff in the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery.

As a Senior Media Advisor in the Greiner Government, Rod worked in the portfolios of Attorney General and Health.  Rod advised on highly publicised legislation and regulatory matters including the establishment of the government’s Compulsory Third Party motor insurance scheme and a review of Sydney’s tertiary health resources.  

He then managed teams of communications staff at the NRMA and the Insurance Council of Australia, where he gained a detailed knowledge of the insurance sector, and importantly developed expertise on the link between the insurance process and well managed public affairs.  

He has managed communication around a number of controversial issues including public liability and flood insurance, asbestos industries compensation fund, and child protection matters and the current Royal Commission.
